Week 2 - Tent Materials
Bill of Materials
Netting (48.28 Dollars)
We are splitting the cost of the netting with another group (Steve and David’s) for out netting that
lays over the entire tent structure.
PVC Piping
Ideal Conditions
4 six footlong 3/4 PVC pipes (2.84 Dollars Each) (The extra 4ft will be cut into necessary lengths)

6 two-foot-long-3/4 PVC Pipes (Cut into 1ft segments) (1.79 Each)
4 two-foot-long-3/4 PVC Pipes (1.79 Each)
8 three-way-elbow 3/4 PVC connectors (14.49 Dollars)
8 3/4 Schedule40 PVC Coupling Socket (0.39 Dollars Each)
If not able to get six-foot-long PVC
18 two-foot-long-3/4 PVC Pipes (Which get cut into 1 ft segments) (1.79 Each)

8 three-way-elbow 3/4 PVC connectors (14.49 Dollars)
Under Ideal Conditions, the 4 ten-foot-long
pipes will be cut into three pipes. 6ft, and 2 2ft long pipes. This allows us
to not need to buy any 2ft long pipes, and will have left over pipes for other
groups to use. This being said, we were unable to find any 3ft PVC piping
online anywhere.

We used
just recycled cardboard for the project, thus the 21.99 was not added to our
total cost.
Total Amount Paid
Ideal Conditions:
$63.21
This
price only includes 1/3 of the price of the netting, and the cardboard box cost
was not calculated in. This is because we shared the price of the netting with
2 other groups, and we used old cardboard for the shapes.
Unideal Conditions:
$109.14
This price
only includes 1/3 of the netting price, but includes the cardboard box along
with more types of PVC piping. This is in the case of not getting access to any
pipe cutters, or places that have the pipes needed for this build. This
scenario is very unlikely, and most builds will be closer to the ideal price.
Build Instructions:
- Collect materials (8 PVC Tee Connector, 4 3ft PVC Pipes, 4 2ft PVC Pipes, 4 6ft PVC Pipes Netting, Wooden Rods, PVC Cutter, and Small Wooden Rings of varied sizes)
- Connect the base of the tent with the 4 tee connectors, and the 2 2ft Pipes, and the 2 3ft pipes to form a rectangle.
- Next, connect the four 6 ft pipes to the top of the tee connectors which will stand straight up.
- To finish the outside structure connect the last 4 tee connectors, and pipes to form the same rectangle as the base. You should have a solid rectangle now.
- Drill holes in various places on the inside of the piping to stick the wooden rods into.
- Stick the wooden rods into the holes of the PVC piping so that they are all in different locations, and easy to take back out of the pipes.
- Glue the wooden rings to the end of the sticks.
- Lastly cut the netting so that it will fit perfectly around the casing.
- Glue the netting to the pipes so that it will stay firm.
Disassembly:
- Remove the tape from the netting, and take it off.
- Slide out all of the sticks from the piping.
- Disconnect all of the PVC pipes, and store.
Transfer/Storage
To store, and move all of our materials for the tent, we were thinking that we would make use of some of the materials that we are already using for the structure. We have a lot of netting already so we were thinking that we could place all of the materials inside the net once they are disassembled. After, all you have to do in close the netting, tie it up, and carry it that way.


I noticed that your total price was $109. what plan do you have to lower this price? are you going to change your materials or use less materials since our max price is $100?
ReplyDeleteI will try to find a good in-between of the ideal and unideal circumstances when it comes to ordering the parts. This will hopefully allow the real cost to be less than the 100$ limit to the project.
DeleteWith your other price idea being around 60. Would you think about adding more stuff to your project to make it stand out more?
ReplyDeleteWe could spend more money to get more in-depth looking obstacles for the drones to fly through instead of cardboard.
